It then ran at the National Theatre’s Olivier Theatre between November 2018 and January 2019 ahead of opening on Broadway in April the same year. Hadestown first premiered at New York Theatre Workshop in 2016 before a run in Canada. Rachel Chavkin directs the production which has choreography by David Neumann, scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Michael Krass, lighting design by Bradley King, sound design by Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz, musical director and vocal arrangements by Liam Robinson, orchestrations and arrangements by Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose and dramaturg Ken Cerniglia. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) 'Hadestown,' the brooding musical about the underworld, has reason to smile broadly: It's the best new musical Tony Award winner and nabbed eight trophies Sunday. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, singers and dancers, Hadestown invites you to imagine how the world could be.Ĭasting for the West End run is to be confirmed. It intertwines two mythic tales - that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone - as it invites you on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back. John Krause is the current understudy in the Broadway production.Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. I think they were running with four workers the other day, too. In the Edmonton, West End and Broadway production, he's played by Reeve Carney. What’s up with the substitutes I’ve been haunting the bway hadestown IG and it feels like half the primary cast is down. In the Off-Broadway production, he was played by Damon Daunno. In the original concept album, Orpheus is played by Justin Vernon. In Vermont, Orpheus was played by Ben Campbell. Then, he comes out again in act one clothes, so the story begins again. Orpheus is overcome by doubt and ultimately turns around to see if Eurydice is following too, losing her forever.Īt the end we can see Orpheus kneeling and crying, having losing his great love. 'To the world we dream about, and the one we live in now'- Orpheus in 'Livin´ it up on top' Orpheus is the main character in 'Hadestown'. And if he turns to see if she's following him, she stays in Hadestown forever. Orpheus is the main character of the 2019 musical 'Hadestown'. The king tells Orpheus that he will let the young lovers go, but on one condition: he has to walk in front and she has to walk behind. Emilio Madrid-Kuser Just a block away, as the cast of Hadestown sang its finale, Waitress took a similarly exuberant, though melancholic first bow since closing its four year run in January. Orpheus sings his song and Hades is moved to a point he starts dancing with his wife. He makes a deal with the musician: he will sing a song for him, and if Hades is moved by that song, he´ll let them go. He then hears the workers from Hadestown singing too, and he realizes that they´re on his side. Orpheus is devastated, and he starts to sing about his feelings. Orpheus then finds her, and they´re really happy until Hades reveals the truth: Eurydice has signed a deal, so she cannot go anywhere. When Orpheus finds out that she's gone, he goes after her in order to find her.Įurydice realizes that she was wrong and that Hadestown is a terrible place. The winter comes and Eurydice realizes that Orpheus cannot provide food and firewood, so she decides to go and work for Hades in Hadestown. Eurydice is amazed by his song and the power it has. We learn that Orpheus is a singer and a musician, and he is trying to write a song that will bring the world back in the tune. Then Eurydice appears and he falls in love with her and asks her to go home with him. He's good friend with Hermes, who helps him as some kind of mentor. By the end of the play, anyway, he's unsure and overcome by doubt. He is naïve, good, optimistic and sensible. He has the ability to see how the world should be instead of the way that it is. He's writing a song that will change the world. He is a musician: sings, writes and plays the lyre. Orpheus is based on the character from the greek myth with the same name. We will see his journey to find her after she goes to Hadestown. Eurydice, a young girl looking for something to eat, goes to work in a hellish industrial version of the Greek underworld to escape poverty and the cold, and her poor singer-songwriter lover Orpheus comes to attempt to rescue her. He falls deeply in love with her the moment he sees her and asks her to go home with him. He is a poor musician who works as a waiter when he meets Eurydice. 8/11/2023 0 Comments Journey meaningAfter Solomon’s death, when his son Rehoboam foolishly refused to lighten that burden, but vowed to make it even heavier, the northern part of the kingdom rebelled, seceded, and set up its own separate kingdom. Supporting this lavish court put a heavy financial burden on the people. Solomon built up a vast and very expensive royal court, including “seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines” (1 Kings 11:3). You can read all about it in 1 Kings 10–12. In fact, it was Solomon’s lavish reign that led to the breakup and decline of the nation. His son Solomon’s lavish reign was also a distant memory. King David’s spectacular military conquests, which enlarged the borders of the nation to its widest extent, were now a matter of history. To understand the deeper meaning of this story, we need to know its background in the Bible narrative.īy the time of Elijah’s and Elisha’s prophetic careers, the glory days of the nation of Israel were already behind it. But mostly, we’ll look more deeply at the text of the story itself, and sleuth out a few of the spiritual insights it contains. We’ll draw on the method of Bible interpretation offered by Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772), and on various commentaries inspired by that method, without actually quoting from them. In this second (and final) article in response to Adom’s question, we’ll dig deeper, and look at the spiritual significance of this story for our Christian walk. In that article, we drew out a few of the lessons in that Bible story that are plain for anyone to see. The previous article, “ What Can We Learn from the Story of Elijah and Elisha?” responded to this Spiritual Conundrum submitted to Spiritual Insights for Everyday Life by a reader named Adom Ameyaw:Ĭan you explain and give the significance 2 Kings 2:1–18 in the life of a Christian? 8/11/2023 0 Comments Illustrator transparent rectangleUntil Esri fixes Bug 00131365, it looks like my options are either 1) go back to ArcMap or 2) add an extra step to remove the background in Illustrator. Use opacity masks to create variations in transparency. I will need to export 2-3 dozen maps to layer in Acrobat, so efficiency is key. You can add transparency to artwork by doing any of the following: Lower the opacity of objects so that underlying artwork becomes visible. So, in this case, if I go to Illustrator to remove the background color either exporting to PDF or AIX, it's still an extra step when compared to exporting a PDF from ArcMap. In cases where the map background does have a color, the map has 2 white background layers once opened in Illustrator. When I was troubleshooting, I brought the PDFs into Illustrator, which is how I determined ArcGIS Pro still keeps a white background on PDFs despite me telling Pro to make it transparent. I am trying to convert this workflow to ArcGIS Pro for the GIS part, since our team relied on ArcMap to do this in the past. When using ArcMap, there was no issue with a background transparency, so the process didn't require using Illustrator to remove a background color. Create a shape over your existing objects, select all the items that. Ultimately the maps need to go from GIS to PDF. To mask a shape or collection of shapes, follow the same procedure as with the Crop Tool. We make several statewide maps at a fixed scale, export them to PDF and then use the Import Layers tool within Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to merge & layer the maps into an interactive PDF map. However, the project in question uses Adobe Acrobat heavily to build a PDF product. Hi Sarah, I do have the plugin and use it as a regular part of my workflow! When I export from ArcGIS Pro to PDF, even when I specify that the map frame be transparent and the layout be transparent, when I export the map to PDF it still maintains a white background layer. It’s these little tips and shortcuts that can help streamline your process and just make things a whole lot easier. For those who didn’t, YOU’RE WELCOME! It goes to show you that there’s always something new to learn. Again, for those who knew this tip already, I apologize. Until now, I always exported a 5000x5000px PNG image, and everything went fine. I created a pattern, and now I need to export it to upload it to a print-on-demand website. I’ve been using Illustrator for freakin’ over seven years, since I was in high school, and I had no idea about this little shortcut. Ive never had any problems with Illustrator until now. Simply equip the Rounded Rectangle Tool, drag out your rectangle – don’t let go of your mouse click – then use your arrow keys. You can easily adjust rounded rectangle corners in Illustrator simply by using the UP arrow key or DOWN arrow key. With an image selected, drag the cursor from the part of the image that is to be opaque to the part of the image that is to be transparent. In fact, you probably already know this tip, but for those who don’t, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I forgot who showed me this (I think it might have been Aaron), but man, it absolutely blew my mind. You can change the resolution accordingly but the default Screen (72 ppi) is. Step 3: Change the Background Color to Transparent. Check the Use Artboards box and click Export. Step 2: Rename the file, choose where you want to save it, and change the format to PNG (png). Transfer wort to a fermenter and add yeast: Once the wort is in the appropriate temperature range, it’s time to transfer it to your fermenter and add yeast.Beginners usually set their kettle in a sink filled with ice, but there are several types of purpose-built wort chillers that can cool wort more efficiently. Chill wort: Once the wort has been boiled, you need to chill it to a temperature suitable for yeast to do its work. Some styles, like IPA, use a lot of hops others, like American lagers, use very little. Boil wort: Once you have your wort, the next step is to boil it and add hops at specified intervals to impart the bitterness, flavor, and aroma desired in the beer style. But it gives the brewer greater control over the flavor, body, and color of the finished beer. All-grain brewing is more complicated and generally requires more equipment than extract brewing. This allows the naturally occurring enzymes in the malt to convert starch into sugar. The other way to make wort is called all-grain brewing, in which you steep a larger quantity of crushed malted grain in hot water in a process called mashing. This is the kind of recipe you’ll get in most of the kits we recommend some of those recipes will also include a small quantity of crushed steeping grains, which add color and flavor to the neutral base provided by the extract. The easier way is called extract brewing, and it involves dissolving liquid or powdered malt extract in hot water. 8/11/2023 0 Comments Functions of auditory cortexReceived: JanuAccepted: JPublished: July 27, 2020Ĭopyright: © 2020 Park, Geffen. Theunissen, University of California at Berkeley, UNITED STATES PLoS Comput Biol 16(7):Įditor: Frédéric E. This approach brings together multiple findings from different laboratories and identifies a circuit that can be used in future studies of upstream and downstream sensory processing.Ĭitation: Park Y, Geffen MN (2020) A circuit model of auditory cortex. This circuit exhibits a balance of inhibitory and excitatory currents that persists on stimulation. These roles reproduce the differential effects of PVs and SSTs in stimulus-specific adaptation, forward suppression and tuning-curve adaptation, as well as the influence of PVs on feedforward functional connectivity in the circuit. These roles are augmented by plastic synapses. Second, SSTs are generally disinhibited by reduced PV activity regardless of thalamic input strength. First, PVs compensate for reduced SST activity when thalamic inputs are strong with less compensation when thalamic inputs are weak. By starting with a cortical rate model, we find that a simple current-compensating mechanism accounts for the experimental findings from multiple groups. Specifically, we asked whether a common microcircuit can account for the disparate effects found in studies by different groups. These studies can inform our understanding of parameters for the connectivity of excitatory-inhibitory cortical circuits. Recent studies found that two most common inhibitory interneurons, parvalbumin- (PV) and somatostatin-(SST) positive interneurons control sound-evoked responses, temporal adaptation and network dynamics in the auditory cortex (AC). Despite rapid progress in understanding the function of distinct neuronal populations, the parameters of connectivity that are required for the function of these microcircuits remain unknown. The mammalian sensory cortex is composed of multiple types of inhibitory and excitatory neurons, which form sophisticated microcircuits for processing and transmitting sensory information. 8/11/2023 0 Comments Iboysoft data recovery discountWe had zero issues getting started with this app. The Deep Scan did find several files that the regular scan missed, but our measurements showed that deep scanning could potentially be a time and resource hog on less powerful PCs. mp4 files can’t be previewed in the iBoysoft data manager at all. So if your lost file appears in a few seconds, you’ll still need to wait for the scan to complete. It’s impossible to preview found files in the iBoysoft data manager until the entire scan is complete. We did discover a few disappointments in our test run, however: In terms of pure results, it would seem that iBoysoft achieved top marks. On a larger 1TB hard drive, the Deep Scan took considerably longer, but every one of our test scans recovered all of the deleted items.
